BBM Stalkers

Pretty much all of us have Blackberrys now. If you don't own one, go stand in the the corner and be ashamed of yourself. I'm kidding (not really). Anyway, BBM or Blackberry Messenger is a very useful tool for keeping in touch with people. It's fun to use and most importantly, it's free. The downside is that there are some people who are very eager to ask for your PIN and add you to their list of friends. I am generally very protective of my PIN but there are some cases, like when friends of friends are involved, that you can't say no. Usually it's harmless and they don't contact you, but on the odd occasion you get stuck with a stalker. These are people that you never really see in real life but still feel the need to comment on your status updates or your profile picture and send you jokes and random observations. Not cool. Bottom line, if you wouldn't spend one on one time with this person, you probably shouldn't have them on BBM. Delete.

An Introduction

Where are you from? What do you consider yourself? Where do you call home? These are all questions that most people can answer in one word. I honestly can't. If I had to describe myself in one word it would be mixed-up. Not in a bad way. Although that word almost always has a negative connotation, I've actually come to accept and even embrace not knowing exactly where I belong.
As a Portuguese-Cape Verdean born in Singapore and raised in Dubai, I never really stood a chance at being normal. No one had even heard of the Cape Verde Islands! Then I broke out of my little bubble and moved to London. There I realised that the people I relate to most aren't the people that come from where I come from but those that share my values and understand my obsessions with film, food and fashion. Ten years later, I'm back in living in Dubai and though I often find myself doing a little mime to describe where the Islands are, what used to be a chore now makes me feel good in that I'm sharing a bit of my 'mixed-up' culture and hopefully getting someone to share a bit of theirs.
